By now, you must be aware of the virtual world of Matterport Spaces, the
3D
experience of any real-world location. With a compatible camera – or even your own
iPhone
– paired with a Matterport subscription plan, you are but a click away from publishing a
digital twin
of any physical space you choose.
Matterport’s industry-leading 3D platform makes it a breeze to capture, customize, publish, and maintain a virtual showcase of any place, large or small, indoors or out. Highlight every room in the home of your client, take your buyers on a virtual walk through local attractions, or post a tour of your business to
Google Street View
. Whatever the subject, buyers, sellers, and agents
alike love
3D virtual tours
. And Matterport brings them to life like no one else.
Now,
Matterport
has taken the virtual experience to a new level.
Virtual Reality is the ultimate way to encounter a 3D virtual space, and for several years Matterport Spaces have been compatible with virtual reality devices. But recent advances have made the experience even better. With the new
VR Mode
of Matterport Showcase, users have access to higher visual quality, improved mobility, and the ability to view any 360º Views you include in the tour.
The way to view a Matterport Space is through the Matterport Showcase, on any computer, smartphone, or tablet – anywhere. The new VR Mode in Showcase has been optimized for use with the state-of-the-art Oculus Quest VR headset to afford users with a comfortable and convincing virtual reality experience.
How has the new VR Mode and Oculus Quest pairing improved the VR journey?
For starters, you are able to take full advantage of the full native resolution of your scanned images in the new VR Mode. That means there is no degradation or modification to the resolution of the original image. You can see exactly what you captured, thereby enhancing what your customers can see. Matterport Spaces have never looked so sharp in VR.
Your clients are also able to move about freely through a
home tour
or any other space. Where it was once necessary to follow a specified VR path (the blue spheres), visitors can now walk around anywhere.
And they can do it from the comfort and convenience of their seats. Rather than having to twist their bodies to see what lies behind, users can turn around using the thumb stick on the controller.
If you have included 360º Views into your tour (these are 360 degree panoramic scenes captured in two dimensions), visitors can now see and navigate them in VR just like they can in the normal Showcase view.
The new VR Mode is optimized for the Oculus Quest because it is the newest and most popular headset from Oculus. It is also a fantastic combination of comfort and performance, offering the best VR experience of a Matterport Space.
But other VR devices are also compatible. For instance, the Oculus Go can be used. Even an iPhone or Android paired with Google Cardboard are options, although they do not provide nearly the same level of comfort and ease (legacy Cardboard applications on iOS and Android are still available, though not recommended). Although not tested, other headsets with support for the WebXR standard may also be compatible. Still, Matterport recommends the Oculus Quest above all.
Virtual reality opens up a whole new world of possibilities for you and your customers: a way for you to
future proof your business
with enhanced experiences, and a route for them to visit a place – or lots of places – without leaving the comfort and security of their homes. While a VR system can be a great reason to have your clients visit your branch office, it is also something that you can take to them, which is an excellent option to offer in the age of
coronavirus
and social distancing. Matterport Showcases give you a way to show off your listings in creative ways, and the new VR Mode kicks it up a notch.
